-Ivy completes Northwestern Ontario portion of network with six locations-

Kenora, ON, July 15, 2021– Today, Ivy Charging Network announced the opening of a new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charger location near Kenora in Longbow Lake, marking a milestone as the company completes the Northwestern Ontario portion of its network with 26 locations now open across Ontario. Ivy Charging Network is a joint venture between Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Ivy’s locations offer multiple level 3 fast-chargers near well-traveled routes while also connecting more rural and remote areas to alleviate range anxiety. Ivy has fast-charger locations in Atikokan, Fort Frances, Dryden, Upsala, and Thunder Bay creating an EV network that spans 800 km across Northwestern Ontario with its Longbow Lake location now complete.

“Hydro One is proud to energize life in Ontario while creating opportunities for a better and brighter future,” said Jason Rakochy, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Growth for Hydro One, and Co-President of Ivy Charging Network. “By expanding Ivy’s network in Northwestern Ontario, we’re ensuring EV drivers today and in the future have a trusted network to get them where they need to go.”

“At OPG, we are committed to powering Ontario with clean, reliable energy while innovating for the future,” said Theresa Dekker, Vice President, Corporate Business Development & Strategy for OPG, and Co-President of Ivy Charging Network. “Ivy is one the ways we are acting as a catalyst for efficient economy wide decarbonization, as pledged in our Climate Change Plan, by encouraging adoption of EVs through a fast-charger network that connects all of Ontario.”

“I am proud to see Ivy Charging Network, a partnership between Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation, bring electric vehicle fast-chargers across Northwestern Ontario,” said Todd Smith, Ontario’s Minister of Energy. “By creating a reliable EV network in Ontario, Ivy Charging Network is supporting our plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

“We are giving Canadians the greener options they want to get to where they need to go,” said The Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources. “This is how we get to net zero by 2050.”

Once complete, Ivy will be Ontario’s largest and most connected EV fast-charger network. Natural Resources Canada, through its Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative, provided an $8 million repayable contribution to Hydro One and OPG to help build the EV network.
